Standing
in
the
center
of
Paoli
for
nearly
a
hundred
years,
this
simple,
one-room
church
has
touched
many
lives.
First
used
as
a
Sabbath
School
from
1892
until
1900,
the
chapel
became
the
first
Paoli
Presbyterian
Church
at
the
turn
of
the
century.
The congregation soon outgrew the little clapboard structure and it was turned over to the Paoli Town Association (1906-1920). Paoli continued to grow and for the next 66 years, the small chapel became a local landmark and gathering spot for young and old alike as the Paoli Library (1920-1986).
But the town and its library eventually outgrew the little church, too. Some sought its demolition. But others looked and saw the hope and joy the one-room church could continue to bring to people.
On April 14, 1986, the chapel was carefully moved to its new home on the grounds of Paoli Presbyterian Church where it was lovingly restored and renamed Paoli Library Chapel.
