As
the
sun
awakens
the
warehouse
district
of
historic
Annapolis,
only
stories
of
handed
down
through
the
generations
can
reconstruct
the
early
years
of
this
thriving
port
and
colonial
capital.
Once
regal
schooners
from
England
and
Scotland
would
unload
their
cargos
of
manufactured
goods
and
luxury
items,
returning
home
with
their
hulls
laden
with
tobacco
and
wheat
from
the
fertile
valleys
of
central
Maryland.
In nearly three and a half centuries since Thomas Todd settled on Spa Creek, a great deal has changed. However, much remains the same. Great care has been taken to maintain the historic accuracy of this area of the harbor, which now houses quaint specialty shops and the Maritime Museum.
In this early morning landscape, renowned watercolorist, Richard Bollinger, has captured the harbor just as it stands today. In rich tones of early light, he has preserved the timeless charm of this wonderful port of call.
